Die Mitarbeiter_innen der Bibliothek, die sich in dem von Maria Seissl maßgeblich gestalteten Umfeld als »Menschen im Aufbruch« begreifen, beschreiben und analysieren in ihren Beiträgen die Entwicklung der Universitätsbibliothek Wien in einer Periode historischer Umbrüche: Zu Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts galt es, den Wandel von einer staatlichen Institution zu einer universitären Dienstleistungseinrichtung zu gestalten. Gleichzeitig wurden auch die Herausforderungen des »digital turn« angenommen. The Vienna University Library is the knowledge hub of Vienna University. The festschrift for Maria "Mia" Seissl is published on the occasion of her significant birthday and her 15th anniversary as head librarian. In their contributions the staff members of the library describe and analyse the development of the Vienna University Library in a period of historical transitions: at the beginning of the 21st century the library had to be transformed from a public institution into an academic service institution. At the same time, they also had to deal with the challenges of the "digital turn".
