Göttingen after the end of the war in 1945 - How did everyday life after the war look from the perspective of the population and the old and new authorities? What forms and effects did the new political conditions, the refugees, the economy of scarcity, the housing shortage, the transformation of the educational sector, and which reorganizations of public and cultural life met with acceptance or rejection? This anthology explores these and other questions. It is based on contributions from a seminar in the history department of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, which were edited by the editors and supplemented by a foreword. In various archives, the students came across numerous previously unpublished sources and analyzed them with the help of current research approaches to everyday history.
