The surrounding struggle for global domination caused serious difficulties for the small state. Cut off from important food imports, resulting from the indiscriminate German submarine warfare, it turned for help to the USA. The pleas of a high-ranking "Swiss Mission" sent across the Atlantic were heeded: The USA supplied the landlocked country with grain thus averting famine. While America thus boosted its reputation, the German empire became more of a threat. Agitation increased when German agents were convicted in spy scandals and trials of bombers in Zurich. Despite German propaganda, the German empire was unable to maintain its influence in Switzerland. German diplomats, as representatives of the unpopular old order, were expelled from Switzerland when the Central Powers collapsed in the fall of 1918. The USA under President Woodrow Wilson was, in contrast, enthusiastically celebrated. This study, just barely one hundred years later, enables a new view of one of the most animated periods in Swiss history, offering an opportunity to reflect on the relation of this small country to the rest of the world. lok: 53097157 3 exp: 53097157 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.509 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055246 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 5 exp: 53097157 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.511 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055254 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 8 exp: 53097157 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.515 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055262 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 10 exp: 53097157 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.517 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055270 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 11 exp: 53097157 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.520 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055289 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 13 exp: 53097157 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.522 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055297 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 20 exp: 53097157 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.524 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055300 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 21 exp: 53097157 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.527 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055319 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 23 exp: 53097157 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.529 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055327 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 24 exp: 53097157 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.532 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055335 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 25 exp: 53097157 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.534 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055343 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 36 exp: 53097157 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.537 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055351 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 49 exp: 53097157 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.539 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0130905536X 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 51 exp: 53097157 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.542 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055378 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 54 exp: 53097157 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.544 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055386 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 74 exp: 53097157 74 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.547 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055394 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 75 exp: 53097157 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.549 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055408 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 107 exp: 53097157 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.552 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055416 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 108 exp: 53097157 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.555 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055424 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 204 exp: 53097157 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.558 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055432 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR lok: 53097157 205 exp: 53097157 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-06-25 $t22:55:49.560 201C/01 $028-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01309055440 208@/01 $a28-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31815 $XR

520 | |a Abstract in English* The promise of America Swiss foreign policy amidst the economic warfare of 1917-18 The book tells the dramatic history of the final two years of World War I, during which Switzerland was in between the fronts of the world powers. | ||
