It occurred in a phase when the "discovery" of the unconscious and the establishment of sexology as an interdisciplinary subject were only a few years earlier. Richard Kühl examines how the new experts found the war zone to be a veritable laboratory of drives and how they continued to controversially grapple with the social and cultural consequences of the war well into the 1920s.
